The President of the Republic Ilir Meta said that he has not changed his position on the issue of early elections in 6 municipalities. Meta said that after the decision of the Constitutional Court there was no obligation to announce elections and that the full decision was reviewed by experts. But is this an interference in the internal affairs of the DP and will it consult with the opposition on the date?

"The announcement of the partial date of the local elections has nothing to do with Mr. Basha or any other party. If the parties are not ready to enter the elections, then let independent candidates come out and every citizen who will run.

I have no obligation to meet the parties for these elections because they are not general elections. I do not know what the DP will do. There may be independent candidates. I have long been asked to announce early elections. 

I would take the issue of local elections to the Strasbourg Court if the Constitutional Court declared them constitutional. I would implement the decision of the Court as President, but I expected the Constitutional Court to declare the June 30, 2019 elections unconstitutional, based on the OSCE / ODIHR report, as well as the non-publication of the President's decree on the date of the elections in the Official Gazette. .
