European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi said in the joint conference after the Stabilization Association meeting that took place in Tirana that the EU will be by Albania's side to face the energy crisis.
He said that the EU has given 1 billion euros in the package for energy in the region, starting with the 80 million euros grant that was announced by the president of the EC, Von der Leyen.
"I remember the first day in office, it was the day of the earthquake in Durrës, and then COVID. I am happy that Albania emerged stronger, the EU will continue to support Albania. We gave 1 billion euros in the energy package. The Balkans can become the gateway for energy in Europe. Albania will be the first to develop a liquefied natural gas terminal. This must be felt on the ground in people. This will increase the region faster than the EU", said Varhelyi.
