A country grows as an economy and in tourism services, if it has a developed airport with a name in the world. Economists calculate that the development of a modern international airport can increase a country's national output by 0.8-1.5 percent per year. This has happened to Istanbul and its region, with the inauguration of its giant new international airport last year. Rinasi, our main international airport, received and transported 5.2 million passengers last year, or 27 percent more than the normal year 2019. At the airport, the project for the expansion of capacities, as well as the complete transformation of the entire space, according to the same standards, has just been completed with airport infrastructures in developed countries of the world. The investment creates great facilities for passengers, who have already forgotten the long queues before 2019. With the investments made so far, Rinas Airport has been completely reformed to receive about 10 million passengers. Today Rinasi has direct lines to 66 destinations, from the 31 lines it had before the pandemic. It is the only international airport in the world, with an increase in air traffic volume of over 100 percent, since before the Covid-19 pandemic. If our tourism today has bookings in an organized manner (with charter flights) over 35 percent of the bookings for summer 2022, this is dedicated to a large part of the 66 flight destinations (cities) departing from Rinas. No major international low-cost airlines would come to Rinas if it had not changed hands. The change of owner was a bold decision by the government and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, which paved the way for the arrival of the world's first major low-cost airline in 2019 and ended the absurdity of the concession that had left Rinas the most expensive international airport in Europe. With the arrival of a major global low-cost airline four years ago, the number of flight destinations from Rinas increased by three times. Even organized tourism with charter flights grew in the last two years by double digits. Yesterday, the second company, among the largest in the world, came to Rinas for low-cost flights. It came to stay and add 17 new destinations to the flights from Rinas, or 200 flights per week and about 2 million passengers per year. Two of the world's largest low-cost airlines, it means genuine competition in Rinas and further price reductions for citizens. The second company that came yesterday to Rinas, to stay here forever, represents the brand, the sign that is placed on a country, when this country turns into a global tourist destination. This is how our country has turned. If, until five years ago, only 7 percent of the Albanians of Albania traveled through Rinas, due to the expensive prices, today Rinas is used by four out of seven Albanians in the country, or over 50 percent of them. 5.2 million passengers arriving and departing from Rinas last year, represents an unimaginable number until just a few years ago. It was the objective of the year 2027, in the business plans of the company that manages it and that thinks that for this year we can even reach 7 million passengers coming and going from our Rinas. At these rates, the 2030 target of 10 million passengers could become achievable perhaps as early as 2025! Very soon the international airport of Vlora will give full oxygen to tourism in the south, while the airport of Kukes with its 40,000 passengers today is expanding rapidly.
