"Open Data Albania", Institute for the benefit of transparency and

From February 2024, the well-known organization with integrity and courage of the civil society, the Albanian Institute of Science (AIS), which manages the well-known portal Open Data Albania and is the owner and developer of the Open Spending Albania project, where abusive and corrupt practices are denounced of governance, is in difficulty for funds for maintenance, updating, development and payment for server space. Open Spending Data is an instrument created by the programming team, economists and anti-corruption activists at AIS/Open Data Albania. Just like the Albanian Institute of Science and Open Data Albania, it is led by Aranita Brahja, the founder of AIS and a professional, who with her knowledge and character, would be dignified in any high position of the country's government institutions. The project risks closing the Open Spending Albania database, which would have serious consequences in the lack of transparency, accountability, activism and anti-corruption activities. Open Spending Albania - citizens' hope for transparency with the State's money The portal of AIS (formerly known as Open Data Albania) has represented in these 12 years one of the most important and effective instruments for transparency, good governance and anti-corruption. Through Open Spending Albania, citizens understand how taxpayers' money is spent. Open Spending clarifies and makes accessible every payment from budgetary institutions to the State, to private contractors, from 2012 onwards. Through the intersection of data, analysis and comparisons offered by Open Spending Albania, not only economists and journalists, but also citizens can understand the abuses and corrupt acts of today's government. Investigative journalists and the bravest activists in the country use State Treasury data, provided with clarity, professionalism and full transparency by Open Spending Albania, to denounce cases of misuse, corruption, clientelism and conflict of interest by central public institutions and local. Many cases of public abuses, even those during election periods, have been revealed through the figures and transparency made possible by this well-structured data base. In one case, the transparency in the payments of the State Treasury led to the initiation of a process for the removal of the Mandate of the Deputy in the Constitutional Court, due to the open conflict of interest. Rama Sect: absolute blocking of state funds and occult pressure on internationals. By empowering the public, activists and the anti-corruption fight, with transparent data on flagrant abusive cases, AIS/Open Data Albania until now, has often received strong dissatisfaction from people in power and businesses close to them. The Albanian Institute of Science has also suffered attempted cyber attacks, fortunately, failed. Seeing this activity generating hours and hours of accountability and investigations to uncover corruption, the Rama sect in power has tried with all open and occult means to hinder the activity of the Albanian Institute of Science. The governing sect of AIS and the Open Spending Albania project has completely blocked access to state funds and programs, despite the fact that the Albanian Institute of Science has always applied professionally and correctly. Meanwhile, it has not stopped there. The Rama Sect has also succeeded in confusing the Western donors in the country, who have understood or been given to understand, sometimes openly and sometimes a little hidden, that their support for the new projects and activities of Open Spending Albania is not "seen with good eyes" ” by Rama and his. A direct result of Rama's occult pressure is that today, even though they are needed more than ever, there are very few or completely missing projects with money from the taxpayers of Western countries, to strengthen transparency, accountability and watchdog culture in Albania. The Albanian Institute of Science requests the help of the Albanian public opinion, to prevent the closure of Open Spending Albania, one of the most important instruments in strengthening the culture of transparency and accountability and in the fight against corruption and the anti-culture of impunity in Albania. The anti-corruption fight, activism and empowerment of watchdog activists in us remain essential tasks of the opposition and our entire society today. The Justice Reform and its new institutions still have work to do to consolidate results against maladministration and impunity of high public officials. To contribute to this mission and challenge, the government, instead of wasting its funds on patronage with collars, should help the Albanian Institute of Science and its founding project Open Spending Albania, from the funds that support civil society. Secondly, the Supreme Audit Institution, which has often referred to and used the findings of Open Spending Albania in its audits, should treat them financially as paid external experts, in accordance with the legal framework and INTOSAI standards , AIS and Open Data experts. With all our strength, we must denounce and exert influence near the Western embassies in Tirana and donor institutions in Albania, such as the opposition, the media and activists of the anti-corruption war, about the recent activity of the Albanian Institute of Science and the Open Spending Albania project. don't close the doors forever!who have understood or been given to understand, sometimes openly and sometimes a little hidden, that their support for the new projects and activities of Open Spending Albania is not "seen favorably" by Rama and his ilk.
