Mersin Gjoça speaks in the book

Mersin Gjoça speaks in the book

Fitim Caushi has dedicated a book to the history of Zhulat, heard about the exploits of Pope Zhuli's canon, where Mersin Gjoça is the historical figure at its center. On the cover of the book we are presented with a graceful man with a concentrated gaze, with a white hood and a noble moustache, a rock face and a stoic posture, sitting in a chair with dignity, leaning on a cane and telling us that this earth has , there are and will be brave men and men who do not leave this country. It seems as if Mersin Gjoça comes to us from the legends and tells us to stay and fight for this land, despite the hardships we have gone through and you will pass from period to period. Fitim Caushi has given us a book in time, in which he gives many messages, but I will put the main emphasis on the care that was shown for tradition, morality and continuity of the family from generation to generation. Simple words have been found and used, but which go straight to the heart and never leave it, such as:

- "Daughters of the chimney", were the girls from rich families, listened to, with wise parents, chatty and fighters, workers and kind words and smiles...

-"To show who you are"... to protect the family, to sacrifice for it, even where you came, at the door of the husband, to increase and prosper him, to leave a good name...

-"Soji girl", that is, to be beautiful in appearance and soul, hand-picked to continue life and prosper the family...

-"You have it for the tribe"... because the tribe is a tradition, it is kindness, it is a guide that shows the attention and care in preserving the tradition for the creation and continuation of the family, to continue life, more beautiful than before...

And here we come to the moral meaning of "big door" and "door of traditions", of customs, faith, door of purity, generosity, bravery, the well-being of future braves, etc. Thus, Fitim Caushi has naturally introduced us to the Gjoça tribe and to Zhulat with a stamp, where we get to know the antiquity, the wars, the efforts made, with stoic men and women, with the feats of a village, a tribe, an entire province and natural and human beauties, in those magical places blessed by God. This edition is special and is added to the previous books of many other authors who have written and documented stories, legends, songs, traditions, warriors and leaders, but the uniqueness lies in the hero of the book, who comes stoic and steadfast, a man who and the mountains were happy to gather and measure with him. The author, with an experience in writing monographs, as a detailer of events, has known how to refer to many archival sources and has made Zhulat magnificent, special, but also shared with all the villages, firmly supported on the shoulders of each other in battles and constant efforts to preserve earthly integrity and honor. The book naturally presents a blessed country called Labëri and a prominent priest called Papa Juli, who was the leader, father and ruler of his country. This great man in his own land, being solicited by a foreign army for a passage, having made friendly terms with the warlike population of this province, was able to pass through its mountains, because the road to the valley of Drinopol was occupied by troops Byzantine. In the book, the author Fitim Caushi has devoted a special place in this history to and extensively described the Canon of Papa Zhuli, which after the 1700s was called the canon of Idriz Sulli. The author rightly emphasizes that Pope Zhul's canon has its source from the spirit of the people of the Labëri province, from the circumstances and historical-social conditions that have made possible the lifestyle and actions of the ancestors. The author has researched like a good ethnographer, has analyzed the change of social-economic conditions, and has brought the nature of the canon with the changes undergone. Thus, naturally, the tradition of Papa Zhuli was continued by Idriz Sulli from Zhulat and Demir Dosti from Kardhiq, who reformed the old canon... reformation to save it from the slow destruction of the early life of the tribe. In this period, the important and direct figure that occupies a central place in the monograph, Mersin Gjoça, also comes to light. He was widely known in the villages of Southern Albania, for his all-round activity and for becoming an influential popular tribune with popular support. He appears next to the Government of Vlora in 1912, next to Çerçiz Topulli and next to other leaders and fighters who had the Motherland above everything. Fitim Caushi has relied on a series of documents and publications, interweaving foreign and local authors, and has revealed to us a more complete panorama of Zhulat and its most important figures, in different periods of time. In view of the discovery and other sides of Zhulat, the author brings us folk songs, oil songs, wedding songs, which immortalize the culminating events for historical figures and warriors who have left their mark in history. The book has a preface prepared by researcher and professor Bardhosh Gaçe. Then the book continues with a description of Zhulat with stone foundations and customary traditions, a description of Zhulat among the mountains, a rare historical and ethnocultural asset, Zhulat and the first canon of Labëria. The author has continued with the resistance of Zhulat in the Ottoman occupation, has stopped in the historical archive song, to focus on the Gjoça family in Zhulat. The book further describes the Zhulatas in the defense of the territorial integrity of Albania in the League of Prizren, the anti-Ottoman uprising of 1911, the Zhulatas and Mersin Gjoça during the Balkan War, in defense of Ismail Qemali's government. Mersin Gjoça helps Prince Vid's army, and the events in the book continue with the promises of fascist Italy in Gjirokastër, in the years of the democratic movement 1921-1924 and with some vital details from the Gjoça Family. Regarding the work of the book, they expressed: dr. Zenel Shalari, reflections on the fighter Mersin Gjoça, Zhulati a generating center of ideas, initiatives of unions to face the challenges of the time; prof. assoc. dr. Zaho Golemi, Mersin Gjoça, a prominent man of Zhulat and all of Labëria and from the well-known journalist, at the same time and recently, the book Çerçiz Loloçi, the heroic epic of Zhulat and the leader Mersin Gjoça. The book continues with a rich bibliography of local and foreign books, periodicals, from the General Directorate of Archives, as well as from the archive of the Institute of History. The book also includes many photo documents that reflect the life and activity of Mersin Gjoça and the activities organized in Zhulat, etc. Zhulat's son, Nazmi Selfo, has also done careful work on the Albanian words of the popular sole and of the province, who as an editor has worked with care and dedication so that the book occupies a place of honor among all historical and monographic books. The book was published by the patriot Viktor Dobi, whose mother is from the great Gjoça tribe in Zhulat, further adding value and tradition. This is a book that will fill you with inspiration and give you courage to continue living on the norms and basic principles on which the Albanian family was built and raised in those generous and fighting countries. The book has a clean language and to some extent preserves the Lab language and dialect, in order to better intertwine the incident and the fable, being all on the same journey...that immortalize culminating events for historical figures and warriors who have left their mark on history.
