The agreement that passes from the heart

The agreement that passes from the heart

The right in Albania, as divided as it is, seems to have been caught by surprise by the agreement on immigrants between Prime Ministers Edi Rama and Giorgia Meloni. On the one hand, she crucified the left-wing Albanian prime minister for this action, taken according to her without asking anyone, although the agreement will be ratified by the parliament, as it was previously approved by the government. On the other hand, Sali Berisha, declared "non-women" by the USA and Great Britain, declared that he would start protests in the country against this agreement. However, a few days ago, in a public appearance, he declared that he has withdrawn from this position. He himself stated that Italian Foreign Minister Tajani had a phone call with him and asked him to withdraw from this position. Reliable sources near the Italian government made it known that the tone of the Italian Foreign Minister was not friendly at all with Berisha, who represents a part of the opposition in Albania. This showed once again that both the left in Italy and a part of the right in Albania use every action of the respective governments to increase the influence on the electorate, especially when sensitive events like this one with immigrants are at stake. In fact, regardless of ideologies and political parties, including the successive governments, nobody can diminish the sympathy Albanians have for everything Italian. Not only because we have more than half a million immigrants in Italy, who found the table laid in the most delicate period for them and have already integrated the best, but because even during Enver Hoxha's regime, the connection with Italy was not interrupted. And the desire to follow Italian televisions and radios overcame every barrier. It is not for nothing that Italian is widely spoken in Albania, because everything Italian is adored, from culture, sports, gastronomy, etc. So, beyond the moral debt we have as a country to Italy for what it has done to the Albanians who filled the ships and landed on its shores for a better life, in the 1990s and after, we are in solidarity as much as we can in this refugee crisis, to ease Lampedusa a little. Beyond the official and governmental aspect between the two prime ministers, this agreement is a connection that goes from the heart of our two peoples, friends for better or for worse. Such was the outstretched hand of Albanians to Italy during the Covid-19 pandemic, when we sent a modest group of nurses to help a little. Right or left, it doesn't matter, Albanians are all in one mind to lend a hand to Italy in dealing with the issue of African immigrants. Thank God we are able to do this, because many have pointed to us as a dark place of traffic and criminality. Fortunately, today we are a reborn touristic Albania, where tourists from all over Europe come to rest, including many Italians. We are no longer Enver Hoxha's Albania, as an armored enclave, with communist religion and Chinese ritual, but we are the most pro-European country on our continent. In the minds of Albanians, the totalitarian pathology that no one should enter this country and no one should leave has already been erased forever. We are grateful, we never forget the mass flight of hundreds, thousands of Albanians towards Italy and Europe, that's why we want to return our gratitude to the African refugees. The agreement is a bond that passes from the heart between two peoples. As I said above, it doesn't matter if it was signed by a socialist prime minister named Edi Rama and a right-wing one, Giorgia Meloni. The first played basketball, paints, writes, taught at the university and as such governs. The second is chosen by the majority of Italians to govern them, it doesn't matter which political wing it belongs to in this concrete issue. Meloni has surprised everyone, because while the Europeans were anxiously waiting for a fascist monster that would march on Europe, they found themselves in front of a woman with dignified communication skills, like a toasted Italian, who has not said anything until now mistake. Right, left, fascism, socialism, etc. they make sense when we talk about history, but the search for their early meaning should not trip us over our feet. Being left-wing should not prevent anyone from making choices that can be interpreted as right-wing, and vice versa, when it is for the good of the people they lead. Old ideological concepts take a backseat when there are dramatic problems to be solved, such as the situation in Lampedusa with the African refugees. It was well said by Prime Minister Edi Rama that "Italy is a victim of its geography in a united Europe that, unfortunately, is not united when the road goes from Lampedusa. To moralize and lecture Italy there are many coaches within the borders of Europe, but when it comes to being a team and fighting the scourge of the Italian maritime border, then it seems that it is no longer the border of Europe, but simply border of a single country. Italy needs help and solidarity, not moralizing and lectures on how to act". This is exactly what modest Albania is doing, with the agreement signed to bring a certain number of African refugees to Shengjin, according to the respective stipulations of the two governments, pending asylum procedures in Italy. Without morals towards anyone and internal xenophobia, but with the humility of a country that has tried it all on its own. writes, has taught at the university and as such governs.
