FRG-US relations, in the light of the war in Ukraine

When we talk about the relations between the FRG and the USA, it must be unanimously agreed that Germany owes a lot to the USA, because after the Second World War, the USA provided powerful economic and political aid through the Marshall Plan. Without American help as a guarantor of freedom during the decades of the Cold War, there would be no peaceful Germany. Without American support, German reunification in complete freedom would not be achieved. However, German-American relations have not been at their best in recent decades, because the divergences on sharp political, military and economic issues between these powerful states have been great and deep. German-American relations have taken a negative turn at the moment, when the then chancellor Gerhard Schröder did not support the American attack on Iraq in the period March-April 2003, he even together with the French, Russian, Chinese and other countries' leaders strongly demanded that the international weapons inspectors be given more plenty of time to prevent the outbreak of unnecessary war. Time proved the skepticism of Schröder and other world politicians towards this "just" war, in my opinion. Here we also have in mind the scandal of the wiretapping of German political leaders Gerhard Schröder, Angela Merkel and other senior German politicians in October 2013 by a department of the American NSA, which had been wiretapping them since 2002. Even Chancellor Angela Merkel had declared outraged, that eavesdropping between close friends should not exist at all, because this would destroy friendship and society. And indeed this led to a severe strain to the point of a break in German-American relations. The irritations in German-American relations continued in later years. Not to mention ignoring controversial President Donald Trump during his inauguration ceremony in 2017 by not shaking hands with Chancellor Merkel, a serious diplomatic incident. This continued later with the disorienting American foreign policies with ideas such as "America first". They were also reflected in NATO, in the military organization of the North Atlantic, where the divergences grew more and more. This includes Trump's demands for increases in the military budget of each member country for the alliance and its missions abroad. Trump with his policies led the world into real chaos, in a vicious circle, from which it is not coming out to this day. It seemed as if these relationships had entered a dark tunnel without light and without hope, as if they had reached an undesired end. Thank God in the American presidency in 2021 came Joe Biden, who from the beginning sought a new course in German-American and transatlantic relations with Europe, because he saw Germany and Europe as the most loyal allies on which America would rely and its foreign policy in the future, because Germany and the United States of America have had and have a long friendship. They have shared during these decades many common experiences, values ??and interests, even if sometimes there have been controversies. Here we cannot leave without mentioning the regular visits of German and American politicians to the respective countries. Chancellor Merkel last traveled to Washington on March 16, 2017 for her first meeting with new President Donald Trump. Foreign Minister Gabriel met there with his counterpart Tillerson on February 2, 2017. On the other hand, US Secretary of State Tillerson attended the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Bonn on February 16 and 17, 2017. Vice President Pence traveled to the Munich Security Conference on February 17, 2017. President Trump is expected at the G20 meeting in Hamburg in July 2017. Chancellor Scholz has been hosted twice by US President Joe Biden. So what I can say is that the continuation of the partnership between the FRG and the USA is safe and will continue in the future. This cooperation will be vital and will be of great importance for freedom, world peace, international and global security and economic success of both countries, of Europe and the whole world. Because Germany all these decades (albeit with oscillations) has shown itself many times as a partner for strengthening security and stability in regional and global crises. She is showing this in the Ukraine crisis, where she has strongly spoken out against Putin's policy and against unprecedented and unreasonable aggression, despite the fact that Russian-German ties have been very important for German foreign policy. According to German analysts, Joe Biden has become a model - an example, a leading figure for Scholz, because according to him the American president is not charismatic, like past presidents, he is not spectacular, but he is calm, with a high level of cold logic and above all result and success oriented. Especially, according to the chancellor, this can be seen in the proper treatment he gives to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
