Goodbye Kristaq Traja! Invaluable constitutionalist, blessed with an intelligence that challenged the ordinary
Written by Eni Kalo 1 Tetor 2021
I was hoping it was just a bitter joke. The reality is different. Sadness. I remember that day in September 2003 when I got off the train at the Gare de Strasbourg, amidst emotions and chaotic particles of anxiety about the new life that awaited me with the start of law studies at Robert Schumann University. I did not know then that in all this vortex of feelings and experiences I would not be alone. I did not know yet that you, together with the beloved Val, would turn to me as a reference point, in my second family, in an unconditional support, on a rock, in a shelter.
The first years in Strasbourg were probably the most beautiful of my life. I would like to always remember you amidst endless conversations, where you nurtured dozens of people with your love for art, literature, good wine, Russian language and worship for life. I would like to repeat how wonderful I was by the pure translation of Alexander Blloku's poems, which still disturb me even after almost 15 years, how sweet the songs of the album "Rechnoy tramvaychik" by Alla Pugacova sounded, how they enjoyed the cooking Wali's brilliant, who had the ability to turn even the most ordinary lunch into a holiday, and how those long hours spent near you seemed to me like seconds that I prayed would never end. I remember when I timidly e-mailed the summary of all my poems written in French,
I remember our last chance meeting in noisy Tirana, where I asked you for a copy of "Timon of Athens" that you had just translated masterfully into your crystal clear Albanian, and how within a few minutes that book was so easily found in my hand , with a dedication that will now remain even more valuable to me. That's how I remember you.
All those who have known and appreciated you know how much you have given to this country, excellent law professional, invaluable constitutionalist, judge of caliber, blessed with an intelligence and wisdom that challenged the ordinary. I have had the good fortune to know both your human dimension and your noble soul, so this loss saddens me even more. I would like to tell you that you have been and will remain for me an inspiration, teacher, mentor and until the end of my days I will be grateful for everything you have done for me perhaps even without knowing it.
Goodbye Kristaq Traja!
