Freemasonry - pros and cons

Freemasonry - pros and cons

As a veteran of Freemasonry, or Freemasonry (it's the same thing), the famous writer Viktor Eftimiu, born in the village of Boboshtice in the Korca District, although this in 1971, when I met him for the first time in Pogradec, was strictly banned in Romania and Albania, he spoke to me, - to be inside, he emphasized: "simply for culture", - about the principles and its platform. "Who knows: one day they might hire you. Or, at least, simply for the expansion of your horizon, it is not bad to know these things as well".
I was introduced to the depths of Freemasonry by the prominent liberal scholar Dan Amedeu Lazarescu, whom I met in Bucharest in 1991, in the days of the creation of the European Foundation "Nikolae Titulesku", and we remained friends until he passed away in 2003.
That year, in Bucharest, the book "The Road to Perfection" was published in several languages ??- a long dialogue that I developed with the historian and spokesperson of the Romanian Freemasonry, the Grand Master Mason (Grade 33), Professor Horia Nestorescu-Balçesht. The comments were countless, most of them positive.

Freemasonry has its beginnings six thousand years ago. Its genesis must be sought in Egyptian esotericism, from where it received the initiation for penetration into the secrets of the relevant Order.
The basic principles of Freemasonry, which have remained unchanged over the centuries, lay before the one who seeks to enter its ranks the fulfillment of four conditions: to be a free man; to provide the means of livelihood with honor; to have sound morals; to swear conscientiously on the Holy Book of his religion, - the Bible, the Koran, the Torah, the Tripitaka, the Zend Avesta, etc. - that he believes in God, in His will and in the immortality of the soul. In this context, the freemason must be an excellent professional in his field and, with his attitude and what he gives to society, bring help in the progress and well-being of humanity.
In Freemasonry, everything is summed up in symbols, that is, in the tools that masons used, - freemason means free mason, - when they built cathedrals, temples, while now, figuratively, they are masons of souls.
According to Anderson's Constitution of 1723, in medieval Scottish Freemasonry, not to speak of antiquity, women were not admitted. Likewise in English Freemasonry, which has the Grand Mother Lodge of the world (United Grand Lodge of England). The Lodge is called the totality of the members that make it up, while the Temple is the place where they gather to discuss. In some countries there are also female Lodges, but these are not recognized by universal Freemasonry.
The social and legal status of women is no longer what it was two or three centuries ago and, with the passage of time, I believe that things will change. The status of today's women, as more and more equal to men in everything, with great weight in the structure of the population, with rights to have functions and titles at all levels, I think it can lead, sooner or later, in equality with the male Mason. But, in my opinion, this cannot be affirmed with complete certainty, because mysticism does not accept women. The latter do not present guarantees for the preservation of the secrets of Freemasonry. As you know, women are not even allowed to go to the Holy Mountain in Greece.

When dealing with the subject of Freemasonry or Freemasonry, the real and the imaginary are strongly intertwined. For some, the confusion has to do with not knowing the issue. For others, everything has its source in malice. While a third category of people, as if they feel the need to immerse themselves in mystery and mundane esotericism.
There are rumors that Freemasonry is anti-national. The facts show exactly the opposite. In the oath of the first degree (apprentice), the candidate not only says, but also signs: "I will love and protect the homeland until the ultimate sacrifice". Maybe Edwin Olldrin, the American cosmonaut who landed on the moon in 1969, was anti-nationalist; Rudyard Kipling, the author of the famous Masonic poem "If" (If); Louis Armstrong, the great American jazz singer; Wolfgang Amadeus Moxarti, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Alexander Pushkin, or the heroes of Latin America - Simon Bolivar and José Martí?
Freemasonry is said to be anti-state. How can it be like this, when at its forefront were and are heads of states and governments, ministers, parliamentarians, high hierarchs? Freemasons, everywhere in the world, have been initiators of the idea of ??a national, independent and sovereign state. There are nation-states that can be confidently asserted to have been created by Freemasons. We are not even wrong if we emphasize that they are Masonic states.
When we mention George Washington, we immediately think of the man who, with an apron on his waist and a trowel in his hand, - as a Masonic painting presents us, - laid the foundations of the United States of America; when you say Garibaldi or Macini, you think of the famous cry: "Roma o morte!" (O Rome, O death), with which the Brothers (Masons) of Palermo set out for the unification of their homeland.
The USA, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Romania and others are Masonic creatures. All the representatives of the Great Powers at the Paris Peace Conference were Freemasons. From George Washington to Delano Roosevelt, most American presidents have been Freemasons.

The Declaration of Principles of the Masonic Convention of Lausanne (1875) states: "To obey the laws of the land; to exercise justice". So long as a candidate is told and asked, from the very beginning, that in the Masonic life into which he is entering, he submits to the laws of the country in which he lives, how can anyone believe that he who has sworn to sacrifice for his country , — the Masonic oath is not an oath anywhere, — will violate the laws of the land, laws, perhaps, inspired, drawn up, or passed by himself in the Parliament of the land?
There are those who think that Freemasonry is anti-religious. It is exactly the opposite. The deeply religious character of the Masonic Brotherhood cannot be doubted. However, Freemasonry is neither a religion nor a sect, but a universal moral movement.
As for religion, I am giving an example from the Freemasonry of Romania. In its history of more than two and a half centuries, we encounter an extremely large number of religious personalities, from simple, knowledgeable monks and ordinary priests, to high hierarchs of the Romanian Orthodox Church, bishops and metropolitans. Then, how can you say that Romanian Freemasonry, for example, was anti-religious? Could all these sons of the Church and true Masons have been antichrists?
At the time of initiation into Freemasonry, the profane, - this is what anyone who is not a Mason is called, - blindfolded to symbolize the darkness in which he is and to emphasize, by contrast, simultaneously with the removal of the cloth that has blindfolded him, The light towards which he intends to go, he hears it being said: "To people, for whom religion is the supreme consolation, Freemasonry says: learn from religion without any obstacles".

There are those who claim that Freemasonry is anti-monarchist. Take any history of English, German, or Scandinavian Freemasonry, and you will see that many crowned heads (kings, emperors, princes) have not been mere Freemasons, but Grand Masters of Freemasonry. Even in some monarchical states, the king is automatically the Grand Master of National Freemasonry.
In England, from George II to George VI, that is, from 1727 to 1937, all kings have been Freemasons. In the German Empire, all emperors and kings have also been Masons: Francis I, Joseph II, William I; the same in Prussia - from Frederick II to Frederick IV, that is, from 1740 to 1861; in Sweden: Charles IV and Charles XV, Oscar I and Oscar II, and from Gustav V to Gustav VI.
