"Drenica" in Durrës, shelter and open door for KLA fighters

It was the summer of 1998 when in Kosovo the war was taking place in all areas. There he was fighting for the freedom of the long-suffering and enslaved Albanian people. The rampant Serbian forces wanted to exterminate the people and burn the land of Kosovo, but the Kosovo Liberation Army was the only force that faced the Serbian army and police, defending its people and ancestral land. It was the KLA that was resisting against the Chetniks and was waging a just war, a people's war, a liberation war, not releasing insurgents from their territory and never claiming in any way foreign territories…

. A group of liberators and some wounded, despite the difficulties of the journey, we were traveling, first to the North of Albania and then to Tirana. Wounded to heal wounds, other liberators to be equipped with weapons.

… After two or three days of travel we arrived in Cahan, the next day in Krumë and then we continued the journey to Tirana…

… After two or three days in Tirana, while we were waiting for the medical tests, together with Ramadani Selimi, Zejnullah Prokshi and Zena Hajren we went to visit Durrës. Arriving in Durrës, I decided to take a walk along the beach road. While walking on the beach road, I accidentally came across a building that bore the inscription Hotel "Drenica". To get to know the owner and learn about this name, we stopped drinking coffee. There we met the owner Gani Kapiti, who welcomed us and opened the doors of the hotel for us, saying: "Today and forever this will be your home, the home of the KLA…" and Zejnullah Prokshi and I stayed there for a few days, until we returned to the war fronts in Kosovo. From then until the end of the war Hotel Drenica in Durrës became a shelter and an open door for KLA fighters. Thousands of soldiers from the diaspora passed there to join the KLA. Hotel Drenica became the main center of mobilization of the KLA, which, even if we wanted to forget, can not be hidden from the pages of history.
