Should there be a difference in pension increases?
Written by Ndrecë Dodaj 21 Shtator 2023
It is known that the number of pensioners is large in Albania, which makes any type of increase difficult for any Government, as large sums are required from the state budget. This increase for most retirees is negligible. When you look at the amount of pension that each pensioner receives, you see differences so large that large pensions look like wages compared to small pensions. Thus, a social pension is 7 thousand Lek, likewise the pensions of former Agricultural cooperatives range from 10 or 12 thousand Lek, when it comes to a former deputy receives over 100 thousand Lek. If you look at their contrast, it turns out that the difference is more than 1 to 10, which does not justify such a thing. Such differences are observed in a large number of former ministers, prosecutors, judges, prefects, mayors who have only had such a duty receive a pension of more than an average salary. The government does well to increase or index the pension and try to help them, but it is unfair that this increase becomes unique for everyone. I think the government should only increase small pensions by setting a target. It is said that there should be no pension below 20 thousand lek, no pension increase for those who receive more than 40 thousand lek. This should be done in one year and then there will be growth for everyone. I say this because it is paradoxical that the 8.6% increase in pensions that is supposed to be given from October 1 is the same as for the pensioner with 10 thousand lek and the pensioner with 150 thousand lek. If the first pensioner gets an increase of 800 lek, the second one gets an increase of about 10 thousand lek. I think that the government should not make the same increase for all pensioners, so there should not be a fixed %, but the small pensions can increase by 20%, while the high ones by 5%. No, it has not arrived, but the time has passed to offer differences in retirement.
