Study: Parents are to blame for all the mosquitoes that bite you

Without exaggerating, we can say with full mouth that summer comes with its benefits and the biggest evil: mosquitoes.

We know that all insects are most active at dawn and dusk, but Jonathan Day, a professor at the University of Florida, agrees that there's a reason why mosquitoes are more attracted to some people and not others. According to a study, the number of bites depends almost entirely on one's genes.

"From recent discoveries we can say with certainty that it is inherited," say the researchers.

Your habits, the food you eat, the perfume you wear do not play a big role in attracting mosquitoes. In fact, female mosquitoes, the ones that bite, are attracted to the smell of carbon dioxide, which all humans emit from their pores.

"Female mosquitoes have carbon dioxide receptors that tell them where the carbon dioxide is coming from and how close it is," the study says.

The second reason is the presence of lactic acid, which is produced during exercise or physical muscle activity. Usually, people who exercise have higher levels of lactic acid and consequently attract more mosquitoes.
