Seven countries in the world where it is forbidden to take 'selfies'

Selfies have become an extremely popular way for people to take pictures while on vacation.

However, some popular tourist destinations in New York, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and others have put in place rules to prevent visitors from taking selfies.

The following are seven of the locations where taking selfies is prohibited:

Taking selfies with lions in New York

No matter where you are in New York, it is forbidden to take pictures of animals, such as lions, tigers and some other animals. This law was passed in 2014 and limits interaction between the public and animals to prevent injury or death.

Taking selfies with jewelry in London

In the House of Jewels in the Tower of London, visitors can see the precious jewels, which are guarded by armed guards. However, they are for observation only, as photography is generally not allowed at this location.

Taking selfies on the Garoupe beaches in France

In 2014, the Garoupe beaches in France banned visitors from taking selfies during the summer. They stated that they wanted to prevent people from bragging about their vacations. They also hired police on their beaches to ensure no selfies are taken.

Taking selfies in Mecca and Medina

After some people took and posted selfies on social media performing religious duties in Mecca, Saudi authorities banned photography at the two holy sites. Photographs are prohibited in the Holy Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.

Taking selfies during bullfights in Spain

Selfies are banned at the event, which is held in Pamplona, ??Spain, to prevent people from risking their lives for a photo. If you break the rule, you can be disqualified from the race, pay a fine of 3,400 euros or even end up in prison.

Taking selfies at train stations in Japan

In 2015, the West Japan Railway Company introduced a law banning stick selfies. The reason they stated was that they wanted to protect visitors from hitting overhead cables that could cause electric shocks and fall onto the tracks.

Taking a selfie with a bear in California

While it's understandable for many people to not approach wildlife, California's Lake Tahoe had to pass a law banning selfies with bears to protect people from potential injury or death
