Albania becomes part of the "First Kings of Europe" exhibition. Objects from the funds of the Institute of Archeology and the collection of the Archaeological Museum in Tirana, are part of the moving exhibition in North America, entitled "First Kings of Europe", organized by one of the largest museums in USA, "Field Museum of Natural History", in Chicago. 25 institutions from 11 countries of Southeast Europe participate in this exhibition. The Minister of Culture Elva Margariti also reacted to this exhibition, where artifacts discovered in the Albanian territory will be presented. Minister Margariti says on social networks that objects of prehistoric heritage from Albania have become part of an international exhibition in the United States of America and Canada. "Among an extraordinary mosaic of objects from 25 institutions from 11 countries of Southeast Europe will be 17 artifacts, dating from 4,500 years ago to 2,400 years ago, discovered from various tumulus cemeteries excavated throughout the territory Albanian", says Margariti, who adds a testimony about the political and social life in our lands in the times of the "first Kings of Europe". The Academy of Albanological Studies states that a team of archaeologists from the Institute of Archeology consisting of dr. Belisa Muka, dr. Rovena Kurti and dr. Rubenc Ruka, have left for America for the inauguration of the exhibition at the "Field Museum of Natural History" in Chicago. discovered from various tumulus cemeteries excavated throughout the Albanian territory", says Margariti, which adds a testimony about the political and social life in our lands in the times of the "first Kings of Europe". Work for participation in the exhibition
The work for Albania's participation in this project was led by dr. Rovena Kurti, in collaboration with dr. Rudenc Ruka and prof. Luan Perzhita, Institute of Archeology/Academy of Albanological Studies. The main theme of the exhibition is the period of formation of social and political elites during late prehistory in the Balkans, from the egalitarian agricultural communities of the Neolithic period, to the consolidated elites of the late Iron Age. The objects selected in accordance with the theme of the exhibition tell different stories: the beliefs and mortuary rituals that accompanied the dead during the Early Bronze Age, such as the group of six clay figurines that accompanied the central tomb of mound 6 of Shtoji in the district of Shkodra ; military and political elites, which are represented by various bronze and iron weapons or objects of military panoply, such as the Illyrian helmet from the mounds of Chinamak in the district of Kukës; the rich adornment of women's clothing from the area of ??Mati and Shkodra, which stand out for the originality of their composition; luxury import objects, indicative of prominent status, such as the string of beads of semi-precious stone or carnelian from the cemetery of Rehova in the Kolonje area, or the Attic red-figure chandler from the tomb of an Illyrian chieftain from the area of ??Mati ; but also elegant and original products of local ceramics, such as the local Illyrian culture cantors from the north of Albania. The opening ceremony of the exhibition takes place at the Field Museum on March 30 at 5:00 p.m. The full exhibit opens March 31 at the Field Museum of Natural History Chicago.
