Management Plan for Berat and Gjirokastra, IKTK a meeting with students and professors

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage informs that another cooperation has started with CHwB Albania, the Faculty of History and Philology and the Regional Directorates of Cultural Heritage of Berat and Gjirokastra. According to IKTK, this cooperation is with the common goal of a more active involvement of the younger generations in cultural heritage projects. “In the framework of drafting the Integrated Management Plan for the historic centers of Berat and Gjirokastra, IKTK is offering an opportunity for faculty students, making them part of the community consultation process. We started the work with a meeting with students and professors of the Department of Archeology and Cultural Heritage, through which we shared common experiences and tasks foreseen for the future ", says the Facebook page of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (ICTK). On July 15, 2005 Gjirokastra was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, valued for its architecture, history and tradition. The city maintains the urban scheme, where each house has special characteristics related to the terrain on which it is built. According to the categories of cultural monuments, in the city are distinguished castles, bazaars, cult buildings and residential houses. The city of Berat was added to the UNESCO list of cultural heritage in 2008, as a rare example of a city of the Ottoman period. The castle is one of the most magnificent views of the city. Over time it has undergone some changes during the VI, VIII, XV and XIX centuries. The buildings inside the castle were built during the 13th century and due to their characteristic architecture have been preserved as cultural monuments. The castle has many Byzantine churches as well as several mosques built during the Ottoman era, which began in 1417.
