Opera "Madama Butterfly" at TKOB, director Manu Lalli: A tragic work, but very contemporary

Opera "Madama Butterfly" at TKOB, director Manu Lalli: A tragic work,

The opera "Madama Butterfly" will come on stage with a troupe of Albanian and foreign artists. Puccini's masterpiece on the stage of the National Theater of Opera and Ballet comes from the Italian director Manu Lalli, who says that it is a tragic work, but also very contemporary. According to TKOB, her directorial concept is both avant-garde and traditional. It describes the pain of losing a woman abused in love and the violence done to nature. In a not easy period for world society, where every day women lose their lives due to violence, this production is a call, which tries to say "Stop!". A few days before the work that will come on stage as a new production, director Manu Lalli says that "Madama Butterfly" is related to nature, but also to the relationship that people have created. “A very special show set in a large lush forest, which will culminate in a tragic ending. Butterfly relates to nature and the relationship that humans have created at this historical moment with nature, ie predators, aggressive, violent behavior that can happen that ends the world in a way, because we are so abusive towards it. And this is clearly seen in the work. The figure of Pinkerton represents humanity that abuses nature and then abandons it and nature without taking care of it can die just like Butterfly", says the director Manu Lalli, where TKOB has also shared a video with her confession about the work that will be on stage.

The main theme of the work

The work comes with the participation of the world-famous Italian soprano Anna Pirozzi. In the work we also mention other artists such as the soprano Eva Golemi, the artists Klodian Kaçani, Solen Alla, etc. The conductor of the TKOB orchestra is Jacopo Sipari di Pescasseroli. Italian director Manu Lalli dwells on her narrative and on what she calls the main theme of Puccini's work, which is the relationship between men and women. "Even though in any case Butterfly is a kind of sterotype of the relationship between men and women in which even today in countries of the world not only distant countries as they may seem exotic to us, but also here in front of us in the center of Europe the relationship between men and women is still hard to build, precisely because there are still many people who believe that women can be abused normally. Unfortunately, this is proven by the current situation in many European countries, where unfortunately many women still die because of the violence they experience from their partners or lovers. Butterfly kills herself due to the lack of love that Pinkerton gave her and then takes from her believing that he can abuse her very quietly. So it is an extremely tragic work, but very contemporary", says Lalli. The Italian director says that nature and women are related precisely to those who are constantly abused by modern man. "It is of course a vision of pessimism, but unfortunately the opera already has this kind of theme inside it, even if the end will give us the signal of something that is changing and through Puccini's music we can perceive the change. And the renewal of society that is already seen around us and music can perhaps lead us to this new awareness of the relationship between man and nature and between man and woman", says director Manu Lalli.

Puccini's masterpiece

The masterpiece of the composer Giacmo Puccini "Madama Butterfly" returns after more than a decade at TKOB, as a new production of the "Festival Puccini di Torre di Lago", in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture. "Madama Butterfly" is an opera in three acts by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, with a libretto written by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. The beautiful 15-year-old geisha is loyal to the American lieutenant Pinkerton and hopes that he will return to her arms. Although three years have passed since his departure, Butterfly, now the mother of a son, the fruit of her marriage with Pinkerton, refuses to start a new life and forget the lover of her heart. The latter, married to an American woman, returns to Nagasaki to take his 3-year-old son. Disappointed and depressed, Butterfly hands her son over to him and kills herself. In TKOB, the work comes on May 26, 27, 28, 30 and June 1.
