Lekë Tasi was born in 1929. He studied cello under the direction of teacher Walter Caletti, in the years 1939 - 1943, then with Ymer Skënder, in the Artistic High School in the years 1949-1952. He worked as a first cellist in the Orchestra of the Radio and the Opera Theater where he was dismissed for political reasons in 1967. His father Koço Tasi, a lawyer by profession, well-known in the 20s, had been a Member of the First Albanian Parliament after the Congress of Lushnja. After the June Revolution, he emigrated for 17 years to Greece. Uncle Akile Tasi, with a busy political career during the war, journalist by profession, died in the prisons of the dictatorship. Leka was sent to forced labor, a little later he was interned with his family in Grabjan, Lushnje, 1975-1990. He recounted the life of this period in the autobiographical book "The robber at the foot of the hills", Tirana, 2009. His main activity is painting. Upon his return, after exile, to Tirana in 1990, he resumed painting and exhibited at the National Art Gallery, as well as several other personal and collective exhibitions. His work was used by AIDSSH as the image of the first greeting card, with the theme of reflection on memory.
