"Onufri" Museum, KKMB: Visitors from Hungary make us believe in a good tourist season

The iconography museum "Onufri" has been organized in the premises of the "Fjetja e Saint Mary" church, in Berat Castle, since February 27, 1986. The museum has always aroused the interest of visitors and the Berat Museum Center has shared some of their photos in social networks says that it hopes for a good tourist season this year. The museum's collection consists of 200 objects selected from the funds of churches and monasteries in the district of Berat. It consists mainly of icons and a group of liturgical objects. The works of this museum date from the oldest of the 14th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The icons were made by iconographic painters such as: Onufri, Nikola i biri i Onufri, Onufr the Cypriot, David Selenica, Kostandin Shpataraku, Adam Kristo as well as the painters with the surname ?etiri (Gjergji, Joani, Nikolla, Naumi, Gjergji i riu and Ndini), as well as from many other anonymous painters. And the liturgical objects, mainly, bear the signature of Albanian goldsmiths over the centuries. The wood carvings of the cathedral were made by masters Stefan Barka from Misrasi i Opar and master Naum Ngjela from Lavdari i Opar at the beginning of the 19th century. The iconostasis of the Dormition of Saint Mary cathedral dates back to 1807. It is considered as one of the best works created by the Albanian masters of druddhendje. The decorations of the iconostasis present some characteristics and principles of the Baroque style, a dominant and distinctive trend of churches built in the Balkans during the 18th and 19th centuries.
