"Marubi" Museum, 389 visitors on Museum Day

The national photography museum "Marubi" in Shkodër was visited by 389 visitors on the International Day of Museums. This is reported by the museum itself, which says that this figure is higher than a year ago. "May 18, unlike other years, marked a super record of visitation of the museum with a total number of 389 visitors, this figure is several times higher than in 2023. The workshop, "The magic of photography", the workshop "Manjikana: Inspiration from Japanese culture", the guided visit to the Marubi Dynasty exhibition, a musical performance with violin and piano by the students of the University of Arts of Tirana and the show "Venetian Antiquities by Father Zef Valentini and Gegë Marubi" with video mapping on the facade of the museum, are the result of an impact created by the intensive program of coordinated events between art and heritage institutions throughout Albania", says the museum on its website. The "Magic of photography" workshop that took place at the "Marubi" museum aimed to explore different photo manipulation techniques, such as creating collages by transferring images from one surface to another, using simple solutions. "The magic of this process lies in how the transferred image looks more like a drawing than a photograph. In addition to fostering creativity and enjoyment, children are also introduced to the museum's archive," says the museum. The National Museum of Photography "Marubi" keeps in its archive about 400,000 negatives on glass plates, perfectly organized and classified according to the year of shooting and the content of the photograph. On the two floors of the museum, you can also see the studios of the famous photographer, Pietro Marubi, and his descendants. It was Pietro Marubi, the Italian political asylum seeker, who opened this building as his new studio. After his death, the studio was inherited by his Albanian student and then by the student's children, who kept the Marubi family dynasty alive.
