Categories of cultural objects
This document was originally presented by ICOM in English and all ICOM national committees in the Balkans, as well as Albania, are translating this document into their languages. Albania is the third country in the Balkans that is promoting the document in its native language, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage. The Academy of Albanian Studies states that these practical manuals present the categories of cultural objects that can potentially be subject to theft and trafficking. "They are designed by ICOM's museums and cultural heritage experts to help cultural heritage institutions, organizations, law enforcement, especially police and customs officials, identify objects that are at risk of theft and prevent their illegal sale and trafficking. The objects selected in the "Red List" are not stolen objects, but inventoried within the collections of museum institutions and serve to illustrate the categories of cultural heritage most vulnerable to illegal traffic", says ASA. A total of 20 "Red Lists" representing material heritage at risk from 20 countries around the world have been put into circulation by ICOM. The conference at the Museum of Archeology in Tirana took place on the International Day of Museums, May 18. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) created the International Museum Day in 1977.
