Katerina Leka: For me, writing is a path that I find refuge from the outside world every time I write, but my greatest love is acting and theater

Katerina Leka: For me, writing is a path that I find refuge from the outside

Katerina Leka is from Gjirokastra, writes poetry in Greek and Albanian. She lives in Athens and participated with some of her poems in the publication of the book "Anthology of Greek Poetry 2021". Her book "Mitos" is expected to be published within the year. She says that poetry and art have always existed in her life, and tells us the "secret" of how we can make our children love books and reading. In this interview, she confesses that despite feeling racism in Greece because of her background, the majority of society has already accepted it. Catherine is also involved in photography and acting. Theater and cinema are her two biggest passions. In recent months, he has written materials for theater and short films.

-How did poetry come into your life?

I believe that poetry has always existed in my life, even so early on that I could not find the words to describe it. It was something very normal and natural for me, I was just looking for a reason to highlight it. The first book of poetry I read was by Sergei Yesen when I was 12 years old, and since then I started reading and writing intensively. I always liked to write small texts in school when I was in class. I was a high school student (not to say bad). I had a collection of notebooks, where I wrote poems and song lyrics, but because we changed houses and returned to Albania for a few years, I lost them all and this discouraged me, for many years I stopped writing. But later I came to the conclusion that you can't get back what you lost, but you can always create something new.

-Your book "Mitos" is expected to be published within the year by the Greek publishing house "Iërite". What is the main idea of ??the book?

The myth was born in almost a month. It was created at a time when I really needed to write. In the cold days of February, on the way to work on the bus with headphones in my ears, I was also writing from a text. I wanted to bring the story of Dedalus and Icarus, two characters from Greek mythology, to modern times through human relationships. As a type of comparison. They have a tragic end in mythology, but in my world they have a, let's say, happy ending. They are born, self-destruct and metaphorically reborn again. I wanted this book to be a spark of hope for those people facing loss. Because everything passes in the end, right? So yes, I can say that the main idea is human relationships and overcoming difficulties - aka rebirth.

As njëra, as tjetra.

-Me çfarë projektesh po merreni këto kohë?

Rezultatet e çmimeve do dalin në Nëntor.

-Which issues are you most sensitized to?

I have been sensitized regarding human rights and especially minorities. I am sensitized about the rights of immigrants, the rights of women, the rights of people with disabilities, the rights of children, the rights of the lgbt community, etc. I am also sensitized to current issues such as poverty, rising prices, violence against women, children, etc. I know that one person alone, me for example, cannot change the world, but I can at least leave a good mark.
