The exhibition "Selim Islami 1923-2001. A life in search of the scientific truth of the ancient origin of the Albanians" in the MHK, a map of the Illyrian lands is also exhibited

A photo exhibition and a memorial meeting for Selim Islam (1923-2001) were organized yesterday by the National History Museum and the Academy of Sciences. The researchers came together in these activities dedicated to Selim Islam, archaeologist and outstanding personality of Albanian sciences. The National Historical Museum this year on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of prof. Selim Islam, opened the photographic exhibition with the theme: "Selim Islami 1923-2001. A life in search of the scientific truth of the ancient origins of Albanians and their lands". In the photo exhibition, among other things, a map of the Illyrian lands was exhibited, which was designed and drawn up by prof. Selim Islami. Among the various photographs, the visitor's attention is drawn to those taken by Selim Islami with the group of students at the University of Moscow, in 1951, prof. Selim Islami during an informative expedition in the district of Mati with Andromaqi Gjergjin, Rrok Zojzi, etc. An important place in the exhibition is occupied by the Albanian-Russian expedition to Apollo, 1959. The photographs of prof. Selim Islamit with the representative of Russian archaeologists Blavackin. Numerous photos show the archaeological expeditions with the participation of prof. Selim Islamit, prof. Hasan Ceke and prof. Neritan Cekës, prof. Dhimosten Budinës, prof. Skender Anamalit, prof. Aleksandra Manos, prof. Androkli Kostallarit, prof. Skender Anamalit, prof. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of prof. Selim Islam with the participation of academics, professors, guests and family members, the Commission of History and Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of Albania in cooperation with the National Historical Museum organized a commemorative meeting in the "Aleks Buda" hall. The meeting was opened by prof. Neritan Ceka, who delivered the statement "Prof. Selim Islami, a life for archaeology". Next, the president of the Academy of Sciences, prof. Skender Gjinushi awarded Prof. Selim Islam the "Honor of the Academy of Sciences of Albania" medal. Prof. Islam was honored as the co-founder of Albanian archaeology, the central figure of its first generation and of modern Illyrology in this discipline. Following this, Academician Adem Bunguri delivered the statement: "Archaeological research in the mounds of Mati and Pazhok in the formation of Illyrian prehistory". At the end of the commemorative activity, on behalf of the family members, Berbis Islami, the granddaughter of prof. Selim Islam. In honor of prof. Islam, as one of the founders of modern Illyrianology, the Institute of Archeology organizes in the month of November, in the "Albanology Days", the international conference "Illyrians: their place and role in the historical scene.
