The mosaic in the National History Museum previously underwent a restoration process. A few days ago, the inauguration of the restored mosaic took place, but the restoration has also brought reactions. The researcher Auron Tare in his reaction states that the restoration consolidated the situation, but did not return the parts that were once removed. "Should history be retouched? The removal of the star from the flag during the period of the first Berisha was part of a debate among cultural heritage specialists. The time immediately after the fall of communism could somehow justify this historical retouching in one of the greatest artistic works of the period of socialist realism. Meanwhile, the complete removal of the large star behind the woman's figure and the removal of the book from the hand of the worker in the mosaic was an intervention, that took away a good part of the meaning of this work of socialist realism (again at that time). The expected restoration with a European Union fund consolidated the work from its structural condition, but did not return the parts that were unjustly removed from a work that belongs to an era that has already ended", says Auron Tare. This restoration was made possible by the "EU4Culture" program, financed by the EU and implemented by UNOPS in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. But researcher Auron Tare asks the question, should an EU-funded work end up with a retouched story? "Should history be retouched in this way? Should the post-communist period operate by the same standard as the practices of the communist period which retouched history before it? Is there a danger that, just like the generation born and raised in communism who learned distorted history, the post-communist generation will follow the same way of learning history? Should a work financed by European funds represent a retouched story?", says Tare on Facebook. The facade mosaic of the National Historical Museum was inaugurated in November 1981. The work was created by well-known artists of the time such as Vilson Kilica, Josif Droboniku, Agim Nebiu, Anastas Kostandini and Aleksandër Filipi. should the post-communist generation follow the same way of learning history?
