Lance Reddick, the actor in the popular HBO series The Wire, has died at the age of 60, according to US media.

Reddick was also known for playing Charon in the John Wick action-thriller film franchise.

The musician and actor died suddenly of natural causes on Friday at his home in Los Angeles, his publicist said.

Police were called to the actor's home around 9:30 a.m. local time, the publicist told US media.

"Lance will be greatly missed," his publicist, Mia Hansen, said in a statement. "Please respect his family's privacy at this time."

Reddick had planned to take part in a tour for the fourth installment of the John Wick films, which is scheduled to be released on March 24.

He will also appear in the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Reddick, a Baltimore native, appeared in more than a dozen films and plays during his 25-year acting career.

He played the role of Charon, the hotel janitor at an underground New York crime hotbed called the Hotel Continental in the John Wick films. He appeared in the original film, its two sequels and will appear in the fourth installment.
