Fredi Beleri in prison, the Greek newspaper echoes the Court's decision: The appeal in Tirana rejected the request for release, here are the articles that were violated

Fredi Beleri in prison, the Greek newspaper echoes the Court's decision:

The Greek media " Kathimerini " has devoted an article to the decision of the Special Court of Appeal in Tirana, which left Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, in prison.

"The Special Court of Appeal in Tirana rejected once again the request for Fredi Beler's release from prison and his right to exercise the office of mayor.

"Beleri has been arrested since May on the charge of allegedly buying votes, after he was elected mayor of the town of Himara in Albania with a Greek ethnic majority," the newspaper writes.

The newspaper also quotes the statement that was held by the Chamber of Advocates in Greece and the President of European Lawyers Without Borders, who said that several articles of the European Convention on Human Rights have been violated.

"The President of European Lawyers Without Borders Patrick Henry noted that with the decision to deny Beler's release, the Albanian courts violated Articles 5 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

He added that there is no reason for Fredi Beleri to leave the country, while at the same time safe measures can be taken to prevent his escape.

He considered the prison disproportionate to Beler's crime as there are over 30 people accused of electoral offenses who are not in custody.

The President of the Chamber of Advocates in Greece, Dimitris Vervesos, referred to the violation of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which considers it illegal to obstruct an official in the performance of his duties in the absence of a final court decision and irrevocable", the Greek newspaper concludes its article.
