Although there is almost no bottle of olive oil that does not say it is 100 percent pure oil, experts warn that this often has little to do with the truth. Dr. Courtney Swan says that olive oil brands are not even close to the same quality and that up to 80 percent of the products have nothing to do with what is written on them.
"Even if the bottle says it's 100 percent olive oil, it doesn't necessarily have to be because manufacturers and retailers often add soybean oil, canola oil and sunflower oil to olive oil to save money," says Swan. But how do you know that olive oil is really pure?
"Two things are characteristic. When you pour it, it should be very dark green, and when you taste it, the taste should be extremely sharp - says the doctor.
