Accidents are increasing again, INSTAT: 16.7 percent more in October

Road accidents have continued to increase in October. The official data of the Institute of Statistics report that in October 2023 there were 98 road accidents out of 84 that occurred in October 2022.
"The number of road accidents has increased by 16.7%. The number of accident victims (killed and injured) is 130 people from 105 in October 2022", the announcement states.
During this year, with the exception of the months of January, March, April and May, in general, every month resulted in an increase in the number of accidents compared to the respective month of the previous year.
According to INSTAT, road accidents in October, in 83.7% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. But which is the age group that results in this month as the most problematic at the wheel.
"The highest number of accidents in this period was committed by the 45-59 age group, accounting for 26.5% of the total number of accidents. Accidents in this age group have increased by 73.3%, compared to the same period a year ago", the publication states.
INSTAT estimates that from the data processed in October 2023, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Monday with 19.4%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Thursday with 8.2%.
"In the month of October 2023, the highest number of road accidents occurred during the time frame 08:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00, each accounting for 22.4% of the total number of road accidents", underlines INSTANT.
"In the ten months of 2023, there are 961 road accidents out of 968 accidents that occurred in the same period of the previous year. The number of road accidents decreased by 0.7%.
The number of accident victims is 1,319 people from 1,362 accident victims in the same period of the previous year.
Road accidents, in 12.0% of cases, occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior. The number of accidents according to pedestrian behavior for the ten-month period decreased by 9.4%", the announcement states.
