Anti-crisis package, IMF: More measures and targeted interventions are needed to protect the needy from rising prices

It seems that the International Monetary Fund does not consider the second anti-crisis package of the Albanian government to be sufficient. The Executive Deputy Director General of the Monetary Fund, Bo Li, ended a visit to Tirana on Wednesday. In the official statement, Li says that he has discussed with the Albanian authorities regarding the increase in prices and that the country needs clear and well-thought-out interventions to protect the needy. "In the discussions I had with the authorities, I underlined the challenges facing Albania due to the increase in the prices of food and energy products, which have led to the narrowing of fiscal spaces, together with the pressures of the external economic climate. There is a need for the protection of the vulnerable layers from the pressures of increasing living costs, through temporary and well-studied fiscal supports". says IMF Deputy Director Bo Li in the official statement. A few days ago, the Government made public the second anti-crisis package of nearly 60 million dollars. Together with the first package approved at the beginning of the year, the total amount of anti-crisis packages reaches approximately 120 million dollars. The figure is very low in relation to the budget revenues, increased as never before due to the increase in prices. At the current rates, the Government expects to collect a total of 576 billion ALL in revenue by the end of the year, about 40 billion, or about 400 million dollars more than it had predicted at the beginning of the year, when it expected to collect in total 536 billion ALL.
