Euro in drastic decline again/ Due to the result of the elections in the EU,

The euro, the official currency for the 20 member states in the European Union, has suffered a decline since Friday. One of the reasons is the strengthening of the extreme right in the European Parliament elections. Far-right parties gained significant support, although the EPP also increased their dominance.

At 00:48 CET, the euro fell 1% against the US dollar since the market opened on Friday, hitting 1.0774, the lowest level in almost a month. Meanwhile, the currency weakened against the British pound to 0.8469, the lowest level since August 2022. The euro also fell against the Swiss franc to 0.9660, the lowest level in more than two months.

The euro's decline reflects heightened uncertainty amid the growing power of far-right parties. Representatives of the right, mainly populists, tend to be skeptical of the EU, against immigration or against the green transition. The growth of their influence within these groups has the potential to hinder the European Union's parliamentary policies in these areas, bringing challenges to political and economic coordination.

The European Central Bank delivered its first rate cut since 2019 last week, marking the end of the current rate hike cycle. Despite a tough policy stance, growing political uncertainties could prompt the ECB to be more accommodative in monetary policy to support the region's economy. This could further deviate the central bank's policy stance from that of its Western counterparts, particularly the Federal Reserve.
