The Minister of Finance, Delina Ibrahimaj, spoke yesterday about the increase in the salaries of MPs and politicians. Asked in the media if she agreed with the salary coefficients approved for MPs and the government cabinet in the Economy Commission, Minister Ibrahimaj emphasized that it is the legislators who decide. According to the minister, the salary reform is being carried out for the entire administration because the country's economy is moving at a better pace and the increase in the salaries of MPs does not cause difficulties for the budget. "They are the deputies, they are the legislators. So I have no comment. The state budget is not put in difficulty as the number of beneficiaries, MPs, government cabinet is a very small number. This is about reforming the salary system of the entire public administration, and the state budget has the skills and capacity to cope with it." he declared. According to the changes that were approved in the Economy Committee, and which are expected to be passed tomorrow in the Parliament of Albania, the salaries of deputies and ministers will be calculated with the coefficient 0.73 in a hierarchy that starts with the salary of the President of the Republic. With the new coefficient, the salaries of deputies and ministers almost double, i.e. they go to 310-319 thousand Lek from the current 175 thousand. The monthly salary of the president is 425 thousand, while that of the prime minister and the speaker of the parliament reaches 392 thousand Lek per month.
