Here is the big increase that will happen with pensions, how the benefit age and the indexation formula are expected to change, the salary increase of 35% to 60% for teachers and the reduction of tax for the wages of parents with children under 18

Albania seems to be in dire need of a new pension reform, which should ensure the sustainability of the scheme and better income for the third age. Two days ago, the World Bank, which in cooperation with the Albanian government, has started work on the review of the scheme, has announced that 4 main areas will be taken into account that will make it more sustainable. Despite the interventions made in 2015, the pension scheme has not yet reached the level where income from contributions equals expenses, causing it to require significant amounts of subsidy from the state budget every year. Also, the increase of the minimum wage in the country to 40 thousand lek per month, which also increased the contributions paid by the employees as well as the increase of the maximum wage for the effect of contributions or wages as a whole in the public sector, again did not eliminate the financial difficulties. On the other hand, the increase in the labor force emigration trend has become a serious concern for this scheme. The second intervention of the government aims to address all these problems and make the scheme more sustainable, guaranteeing a more dignified income for future retirees. Thus, "SCAN TV" has provided some details on where it intends to intervene. One of these is pension indexation, where basket inflation is currently taken into consideration. One of the discussions that is taking place with the World Bank is whether the same inflation should be taken for the entire range of pensions, or whether it should be taken based on a certain level and then distributed to the rest. Part of the new reform will also be clarifications regarding the residence and non-residence of pensioners, compensations for electricity, food or other expenses. The focus of the interventions will be the retirement age, referring to the projections made by the 2014 reform, as well as the supplementary pensions. The reform will take into consideration the developments of the last decade related to demography in Albania, life expectancy, the contributor-beneficiary ratio, so that these interventions are reflected both in the sustainability of the scheme and in a fairer distribution of support for this category.

Minister Mete talks about salary increases

But the elderly are not the only ones waiting for good news, as the state administration will also have a salary increase. It was the Minister of Finance and Economy, Ervin Mete, who yesterday during the activity dedicated to the Global Money Week, said that with the salary increase that will take place in June, the education sector receives the greatest support from all sectors of others, with nearly 110 million euros going only to salaries in the education system. "With the salary increase that will take place in June, the education sector receives the greatest support from all other sectors, with nearly 110 million euros going only to salaries in the education system. The cumulative increase in the last 2 years alone ranges from 35% to 60% for teachers," he declared. Meanwhile, according to the minister, this translates into a better quality education, which is an investment for us in the human capital of young people and the future citizens of Albania. "Secondly, one of the things we are discussing and now we are in a good economic moment, so that we can translate it into redistribution and increased well-being for citizens, is to have two targeted reliefs for young people and children, which will says, if a young person up to the age of 29 will be employed we will allow them to have a deduction from their tax liability, just because of their age, in order to encourage their employment, just as we will allow a deduction for especially from the tax liability for children in foster care under the age of 18, because of course someone who receives an income and has 1 or two dependent children is not in the same position as someone who receives that income and has no children in loading", he said. Also, Minister Mete announced that the fiscal package will soon be presented with ease for the tax on the salary of young people, and PARENTS WITH children under 18 years old. Income tax

Meanwhile, it is known that currently the Ministry of Finance is also discussing the increase of the salary threshold that pays 23% tax, from over 200,000 lek which is currently in order to bring it to 250,000 lek. Present at the meeting with the young people, the governor Gent Sejko, emphasized the correct information of the young people and not only that they do not fall prey to online scams. In order to increase financial education, the Bank of Albania has approved the 2024-2026 strategy, where it is intended that education should start at the age of 9 with lessons on saving, followed by a new text for high schools on personal finance and lectures at universities on banking, finance and economics.
