The board "makes a mess" of oil prices, increases them when they fall on the stock market and lowers them when they rise
Written by SOT.COM.AL 29 Shtator 2022
The Transparency Board has reviewed again today the prices of oil in the domestic market. Oil has become more expensive by 10 Lek per liter, reaching 229 Lek per liter.
Gasoline has also increased by 8 Lek, jumping again over 200 Lek, to 203 Lek per liter. The Board has justified these increases with the performance of prices in the stock market.
The Association of Hydrocarbons Companies said that the board's moves are completely unrelated to the performance of the stock market, misleading both entrepreneurs and businesses, as prices are rising when the stock market is falling and vice versa.
"Today, the Platts indicator, which is the reference by which the traders in the country buy oil, has increased by 3 dollars per ton, which if the calculations are done, the effect is plus only 0.28 lek per liter, while the Board increased the price by 10 lek per liter. Whereas at the beginning of the week, when the stock market fell by 9 dollars per ton, the price in the country was reduced by 4 lek per liter by the Board". Traders claim that they are unable to reconcile prices and costs following these moves by the Board.
On international exchanges, the Platts index was $1,033 per ton, or $3 more than the day before.
