Both births and deaths declined significantly in the third quarter of 2023, reflecting the decline in the country's resident population.
The official INSTAT data show that the natural population increase for the third quarter of 2023 registers 1,066 more births than deaths nationwide.
The number of births for the third quarter of 2023 is 6,070, marking a decrease of 7.4%, compared to the third quarter of 2022. The number of deaths for the third quarter of 2023 is 5,004, marking a decrease of 7.8%, compared with the third quarter of 2022.
In the third quarter of 2023, six regions of the country register a positive natural population increase, while in the other six regions, the natural population increase is negative.
In the third quarter of 2023, the county with the highest natural increase is Tirana, with 913 more births than deaths, while the county with the lowest natural increase is Korça, with 132 more deaths than births.
Births with an increase only in Tirana, 11 others with a decrease
In the third quarter of 2023, one district of the country recorded an increase in the number of births, while eleven other districts recorded a decrease, compared to the third quarter of 2022.
The district with the highest number of births is Tirana with 2,233 births, while the district with the lowest number is Gjirokastra with 115 births. The biggest drop in the percentage of births, during the third quarter of 2023 compared to the third quarter of 2022, is the district of Kukës with 30.8%.
Deaths, annual decrease of 7.8% in the third quarter
Nationwide, 5,004 people lost their lives in the third quarter of 2023, or 7.8% compared to the same period a year ago.
According to INSTAT, in the third quarter of 2023, eleven regions of the country recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, while one region recorded an increase, compared to the third quarter of 2022.
The district with the lowest number of deaths is Kukësi with 120 deaths, while the district with the highest number is Tirana with 1,320 deaths.
The greatest decrease in the percentage of deaths during the third quarter of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, is taken by the district of Gjirokastra with a decrease of 22.0%./Monitor
