Xi Jinping next week meeting with Putin, here are the agreements that will be signed

Written by SOT.COM.AL 18 Mars 2023

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Russia next week at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced today. This will be Xi's first visit to Moscow since Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine more than a year ago. During the visit, Xi and Putin will discuss strategic cooperation between the two countries, according to the Kremlin. "During the talks, current issues of further development of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China will be discussed," the Kremlin said in a statement on Friday. "An exchange of views is also planned within the framework of deepening Russian-Chinese cooperation in the international arena", the Kremlin added. He added that in addition to those two statements, more than 10 documents will be signed, which are now in different degrees of readiness and will be signed in the margins of the visit. Xi will be the most prominent international leader to visit Putin since his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The visit comes as Xi is recasting his image as a global statesman. He already has a major victory under his belt in signing a landmark agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to restore diplomatic ties. Soon after he returns from Russia, he will host Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Friday. Xi and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy also plan to speak by video link soon in what would be their first conversation since the Russian invasion, a Ukrainian official familiar with the preparations said.
