Shocking scenario for Vladimir Putin, neighbors are trying to invade his territories, this is how Russia will be divided into 34 countries

Written by Marsela Shytia 1 Qershor 2023

Ukraine's resistance to Putin's invasion has shattered the idea that Vladimir Putin's Russia is invincible. Everyone knows that it is not the invincible empire it had long tried to portray itself to be both externally and internally. And just as Russia is trying to claim Ukraine as its own, the whole effort is backfiring as other countries seem to be turning their backs on Russian soil. “The Kremlin should be wary of promoting a world where it is acceptable to take territory by force; it only invites others to join and claim parts of Russia as their own", writes the British "The Telegraph", raising the alarm about a new, rarely discussed scenario.
Divided into 34 countries
In Poland, there are narratives suggesting that Russia occupied the Kaliningrad region in 1945 and that Warsaw has the right to claim it as its own. Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and even Ukraine may be interested in Russian lands. Russian fighters who infiltrated the Belgorod region under the Ukrainian flag served as a reminder to Putin that others can also reclaim their "territories." Kiev aims to restore its 1991 borders and end the war. As Moscow pursues the expansion of its European borders, national autonomies in Russia and their leaders plan to decolonize Russia, dreaming of dividing it into 34 independent states. At the moment, national liberation movements are absent due to oppression and persecution within Russia. When the Soviet Union collapsed, some regions of Russia declared their state sovereignty, but were forced to remain silent. These regions have constitutions that declare sovereignty as separate states, with power-sharing treaties governing their relationship with Moscow. These norms are "dormant", but they can be activated once the regime demonstrates its inability to keep the empire in check.
The liberation movement
The prospect of gaining control over their finances may prompt local elites to seek independence. The destruction of Chechnya showed other nations that joined forces with Russia how Moscow treats "separatists". However, the Kremlin treats the people of these regions in the worst possible way, sending them to the battlefield in Ukraine, as "cannon fodder". The poorest regions in Russia were most affected by the recruitment. Anti-war rallies have been held in Dagestan, Kalmykia and Buryatia, with the leaders of the republics speaking out against conscription. They feel they are treated as second-class citizens based on their ethnicity compared to those who live in St. Petersburg or Moscow. If it breaks out, the liberation movement may involve many regions,
"Boomerang" of Russia
The Ukrainian government believes that Russia's imperialist ambitions must end with justice for all. It has recognized the Kuril Islands and the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by Russia and supports exiled politicians of Russian national minorities. Ukraine insists that in order to achieve lasting peace in Eastern Europe, Moscow's troops must leave not only Crimea and Donbass, but also Transnistria, Abkhazia, and Nagorno-Karabakh. It is an idealistic dream, almost impossible, because Putin will not give away a single palm of land for free. However, Moscow would do well to prepare. "She may end up reaping what she has sown, as Russian lands are too tempting for her neighbors, and her downtrodden citizens," concludes "The Telegraph."
