The two leaders talked about modest agreements to combat fentanyl and restore military communications. But there are still deep differences regarding economic competition and global security threats.
The meeting of the two leaders on the eve of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference has far-reaching implications for a world grappling with economic problems, conflicts in the Middle East and Europe, tensions in Taiwan and beyond.
They reached the expected agreement to curb the illegal production of fentanyl and restore military ties, a senior US official said after the meeting.
