"The next pandemic is coming"/ WHO makes the scary warning: It's knocking on our door, we have to..

Written by SOT.COM.AL 22 Maj 2023

After the Covid 19 that brought the world to its knees, the next pandemic will knock on our door, and this time, according to the head of the WHO, it should find us prepared.
From the annual General Assembly of the health organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus declared that it is time to speed up negotiations aimed at preventing a similar situation in the future.
"We can't put this off any longer. The next pandemic is about to knock on our door. If we do not make the necessary changes, then who will? And if we do not act now, when will we take this step", said the head of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The ten-day WHO meeting coincides with its 75th anniversary and focuses on discussions on global health issues, including future pandemics. The WHO's 194 member states are currently negotiating reforms to the binding rules that will define how to act in the event of an international health threat, and are also drafting a broader pandemic treaty, which will be ratified next year.
"A commitment from this generation (for a pandemic deal) is important because it is this generation that experienced how terrible a small virus could be," Ghebreysus said. Countries will also consider the 2024-2025 WHO budget, which includes increases in annual membership fees.
