Giorgia Meloni does not stop, after the agreement with Albania on refugees, she comes up with another idea
Written by SOT.COM.AL 16 Nëntor 2023
After the idea of ??setting up two reception centers for refugees in Albania, Giorgia Meloni has come up with a new idea.
This time, she plans a reform regarding the legislation in Italy, due to which it is proposed that the country's prime minister be elected directly by the people.
Meloni has called this initiative "the mother of all reforms", as according to her the aim is to guarantee more stability in a country where government coalitions last only a few months, if not weeks.
A few days ago the cabinet approved the proposal, but the voters will have the final say. A referendum will be held if two-thirds of lawmakers fail to approve the reform. The first round of voting will be in the Senate, although a date has not yet been set.
According to the latest polls, the majority of Italians agree on the proposed change and if the reform is approved it will be a huge success for Meloni.
The direct election of Italy's prime minister will require a revision of the current electoral system to avoid last-minute surprises. Meloni's priority is to set a new record and succeed where others have failed.
