It is known as "gunpowder power"! American experts give the warning, reveal Putin's plans for the Balkans
Written by SOT.COM.AL 1 Tetor 2022
American experts fear Russia's efforts to incite unrest and crises in the Balkan countries. The senior adviser at the Atlantic Council, Ian Brzezinski, spoke to VOA on the Serbian-language program about obvious cases of Russian interference.
"There are tensions in the Balkans between different ethnic groups in certain countries, different countries have tensions with each other and Kosovo and Serbia are a classic case. Then there is potential instability in Bosnia internally and around relations with Serbia. These are obvious cases where Russian intervention could be interesting to Putin as a way to instigate the kind of crisis that would distract the West,” said Ian Brzezinski.
Ambassador Jennifer Brush, who once served in the Balkans, thinks that the biggest impact of the war in Ukraine could be in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the north of Kosovo inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
"Those Serbian populations have been actively encouraged by the Russians. They are the only areas where you can have a poster of Putin and where Putin is popular, maybe even more popular in Banja Luka than in Moscow. The Russian concept of a Russian world has fueled the resurgence of the idea of ??a Serbian world, but Russia's apparent failure in Ukraine will also fail Serbian efforts for such a world," said Jennifer Brush.
Both experts considered the signing of an agreement between Serbia and Russia for mutual "consultations" on foreign policy matters inappropriate. They emphasize that Serbia should maintain a clear position in relations with Moscow.
