Historic moment for the Finnish parliament. Here is what is happening (VIDEO)

The Finnish Parliament has voted in favor of applying for NATO membership.

"Parliament supports Finland's application for NATO membership. "The parliament approved the position in accordance with the report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs after the 188-8 pro vote", was written on the official account of the parliament, on Twitter.

Finland is now expected to sign a formal application and submit it to NATO headquarters in the coming days, along with Sweden where its government announced a similar offer yesterday.

The vote comes after the White House announced that Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Swedish Prime Minister Magdelena Andersson will meet with US President Joe Biden on Thursday to discuss their NATO applications.
