China's "nightmare" becomes reality, the US arms Taiwan, a "hot war" may break out in Asia between the superpowers

Written by Marsela SHYTIA 29 Mars 2023

Taiwan at the center of US military realignment in the Indo-Pacific? A hypothesis that should not be dismissed, at least based on Chiu Kuo Cheng's words. Taiwan's defense minister said the island could be built as a sort of "weapons depot" in Washington, helping the Pentagon's efforts to solve the military and logistical problems of the armed forces in the western Pacific. Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the eyes of the world have turned to Asia and the fear of a possible conflict between Taiwan and China still persists. The Chinese president has always put pressure on Taiwan not to seek independence from China, just like Putin on Ukraine, not to become part of Western alliances.
Armament of Taiwan
The minister announced that Taiwan and the United States have begun talks on the possible placement of an "emergency stockpile" of American munitions on the island. If the talks pan out, the move would bring Taipei on par with US partners such as Japan and South Korea. At the same time, such a prospect can only be a nightmare for China, which considers the island as its "rebel province" and considers any American action there as interference in Chinese internal affairs. Taiwan, a self-governing island, has never been part of China. This country has had its own government since 1949, but Beijing considers the country with 23 million inhabitants as part of its territory. Chiu's statements reflect the concerns of the Taiwanese and US governments, after the alarm raised by the Center for International Strategic Studies (CSIS). In an effort to stop a Chinese military invasion of the island, the United States would quickly run out of its main weapon, long-range anti-ship missiles (Lrasm), according to the expert group.
The "hot" war in Asia
But there is another aspect that hinders the dreams of Washington and Taipei: the "hot" war, which sooner or later may break out in Asia, requires a wide and efficient network of ammunition depots from the US military. Since the effort has begun, the US appears likely to use Taiwan to launch a deep strategic military restructuring in Asia. If the talks between Washington and Taipei materialize, Taiwan will become the third country, besides Japan and the Philippines, with ammunition depots that the United States could use in the event of a war with China. Meanwhile, Japan has already opened its fourth such base in the Nansei Islands (or Ryukyu Islands). As for the Philippines, The US is seeking to amend the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) signed with Manila to also locate munitions facilities on the four islands. Thus, it seems that what may decide the outcome of a war over Taiwan is its duration. A quick war, with sharp and intense explosions, is more profitable for the US and its allies. While a prolonged war would benefit China. Experts argue that if every Chinese military move is detected and countered early, it will be very easy to prevent the People's Liberation Army from achieving many of its tactical goals. it is more profitable for the US and its allies. Roli i Tajvanit
Vendimi i Tajvanit me siguri do të zemëronte Kinën.
