Ukraine is 'tired' and speaks of surrender: Russia has scored a success on the front line...the place where Russian forces have completely occupied the area is revealed

Ukrainian military officials have said Russian forces have scored "a degree of success" in the eastern Ukrainian frontline town of Bakhmut. They added that Ukrainian soldiers are still fighting the months-long battle, in which both sides have suffered heavy casualties.

In southern Ukraine, the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog said there was a significant increase in the number of troops in the region of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, and that the plant could no longer be defended.

The city of Bahmut and surrounding towns in the eastern industrial region of Donetsk have been the central target of attacks in the 13 months since the war in Ukraine began.

"Enemy forces had a degree of success in their actions targeting the city of Bahmut," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a report published on March 29.

"Our defenders are holding the city and repelling numerous enemy attacks," it added.

According to reports from the Ukrainian military, the average number of daily Russian attacks on the front line has fallen in the four weeks since the beginning of March. In the last seven days, 69 attacks were reported, compared to 124 during the week of March 1-7. Only 57 attacks were reported on Wednesday.

Last week, Reuters news agency reporters near the front line in Bahmut also reported a noticeable drop in the intensity of Russian attacks.

Russian officials say their forces are still gaining ground in street fighting inside the city of Bahmut.

Reuters has not been able to independently verify this information from the front lines.

"It cannot be defended"

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant was seized by Russian troops in the first weeks of the war a year ago, and efforts to reduce fighting and bombing around the plant have failed, despite fears of a nuclear disaster.
