China warns America, United Kingdom and Australia, what is expected to happen

China warns America, United Kingdom and Australia, what is expected to happen

The summit held in San Diego (California) between the US President, Joe Biden, and the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Australia, Rishi Sunak and Anthony Albanese respectively, has had as its main fruit the first concrete and real progress of the AUKUS Agreement.

The tripartite pact between the English-speaking powers, whose announcement 18 months ago sent shockwaves across the geopolitical tableau, aims to act as a deterrent to China in the Indo-Pacific.

Therefore, recent developments have generated China's response. According to Chinese diplomatic spokesman Wang Webin, "the recent joint statement by the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia shows that the three countries are increasingly walking down a wrong and dangerous path."

In this regard, Webin added that the three powers "are thinking about their own interests and are underestimating the concern of the international community."
Australia has announced the purchase from the United States of three Virginia-class nuclear submarines during the 2030s.

The deal allows for two more to be purchased if needed. Later, and also on the basis of the new military alliance, Australia will build a new model with American and British technology. The ambition of this plan is to strengthen the Western position in the Asia-Pacific region, an area that is experiencing a growing Chinese presence.

Thus, this military cooperation has been seen as a threat by China: "The AUKUS nuclear submarine program exudes a Cold War mentality and will only serve to fuel an arms race, undermine the international nuclear non-proliferation system, and harm regional peace and stability".

The new agreement has allowed Australia to enter, starting next decade, the club of countries that have nuclear submarines, a list that includes the United States of America, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, India and China.

The Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, has specified that Australia is not acquiring nuclear weapons and that the reason for this step is none other than peace: "Nobody wants to see an escalation (of tensions)".
