US foreign policy chief Anthony Blinken said on Thursday that China should expect frank statements, which are likely to upset it, from Washington after US President Joe Biden called his counterpart Xi Jinping a "dictator" shortly after of the summit between the two leaders.
Blinken, known for being cautious in his statements and displaying a high level of self-control, looked uncomfortable during Biden's statement, which called Xi Jinping a dictator.

Asked specifically about Biden's statement, the secretary of state, a decades-long adviser to Joe Biden, backed his statement.
"The president always speaks boldly and speaks for all of us," Blinken told CBS News.
"It's clear that we will continue to say things and do things that China doesn't like, just as I assume China will continue to say and do things that we don't like," he added.
Blinken visited China in June, kicking off a series of high-level contacts aimed at easing tensions between the two superpowers.
During this trip, he was received by President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
