The European Union Statistics Office has reported that there has been an increase in asylum requests.
According to Eurostat, Syrian and Afghan citizens lead the list of requests.
"In February 2023, a total of 76,505 first-time asylum applicants applied for international protection in EU countries," Eurostat's announcement states, adding that this is an increase of 41% compared to the same period. period last year.
Syrians with 9,885 and Afghans with 9,310 cases represent the two largest groups of first-time asylum seekers.
Russian citizens ranked eighth, making 2,385 applications.
About 2,475 applicants were unaccompanied minors.
Over two-thirds of the cases were reported in Germany, Spain, Italy or France.
