The importance of Turkish Bayraktar drones in the air, especially those of the TB2 type, began to be understood by the general public in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, where this country in its alliance with Ankara was able to use them to destroy the Soviet-type means of Yerevan.
Equally important, Turkish drones are proving themselves on the Ukrainian battlefield, even though there they have Iranian-built drones as rivals. The successes of the drones have opened the eyes of many countries, about 24, which are already in line to buy their models from the Turkish company.
At a cost of around $5 million, a TB2 drone can destroy advanced vehicles, tanks or anti-aircraft systems that cost many times more.
But now the Bayraktar company wants to take a step further, which could forever change the concept of air superiority in future battles.
It is about the Kizilelma model, a bomber drone that, according to the designers, could see its first flights next year. With a flight capacity of up to 900 kilometers per hour, the drone whose name means "red apple" can carry more than a ton of weapons.
The novelty of this model, obviously more expensive than the predecessors of the same company, is the fact that it will have a real engine, practically turning it into an unmanned aircraft. "A 12-year dream", claim the designers, who in the last few days have presented a prototype which has made the rounds of the track, without yet rising to the sky.
It is worth noting that the engine in question was built thanks to the cooperation with the Ukrainian company Ivchenko-Progress, formalized a year before the beginning of the conflict that has pitted Kiev against Moscow. This model is thought to be used by the United States itself in the future, from the moment that, among the facilities and the reduced cost, it can take off and land not only from traditional aircraft carriers.
