6.6 magnitude, strong earthquake shakes this country, the first information is reported

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 struck Wednesday evening in the Caribbean Sea near the Panama-Colombia border. The news was announced by the US Geological Survey. There are no preliminary data, it is reported that there were no injuries or damage in the nearby areas, foreign media write. 

The USGS said the quake was centered about 41 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Puerto Obaldia, Panama. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles). A magnitude 4.9 aftershock followed about 10 minutes after the initial quake.

Panama's Civil Protection Agency reported that the earthquake was felt in the provinces of Darien, Panama, Guna Yala and Western Panama. Panama's National Emergency Operations Center also ruled out the possibility of a tsunami. Residents in the Colombian cities of Medellin and Cali also felt tremors.
