Tensions in the north of Kosovo/ Today is the fifth day of protests, this is how the situation is presented

The protests against the Albanian mayors of municipalities with Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo continue today for the fifth day in a row.

The number of protesters was lower yesterday, compared to the previous days. Kosovo has been put under diplomatic pressure to escalate the situation, REL said. The European Union joined calls by France and Germany to hold new elections in the north.

3 demands that the EU has for Kosovo:

• To ensure the participation of Kosovo Serbs in them
• To start work on the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority

"Failure to do so will have serious consequences for our relationship," said EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell.

Since May 26, the situation in the north of Kosovo has been tense, after Serbian citizens started protests against the Albanian mayors of the Serbian-majority municipalities Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.

As a result of the tensions, the US, the biggest supporter of Kosovo's independence, decided to cancel Kosovo's participation in a NATO military exercise, after Pristina refused to withdraw its mayors and police forces from the north of country.
