Albania is almost 'seen through binoculars' for foreign investors, the Global Opportunities Index 2023 shocks with the ranking of our country in the Balkan report

Albania is the least attractive country in the region in terms of the opportunities that investors see to invest.

In the Global Opportunities Index 2022, our country is ranked 67th, with a degree of deterioration compared to a year ago when it was ranked 66th. Again, it lags behind other countries of the Western Balkans, led by North Macedonia ranked in 52nd place.

Thus, Montenegro is ranked 53rd for the Europe and Central Asia region, after Serbia, on the other hand, is ranked 61st.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is the only country among the Balkans that we leave behind, ranked 99th.

But what are actually the areas that are perceived as more positive and those that penalize a country in the eyes of investors?
For Albania, the best result was recorded in the perception of business and related to the measures and restrictions faced by the business as well as the relief in relation to the resolution of disputes where the result recorded is that of the 59th country, with 4 levels of discount compared to a year ago before.

The second dimension that performs better is related to the economic foundations and related to the macroeconomic forecast of the country, the characteristics and qualification of the labor force and the potential for continued development and innovation. Albania ranks 60th, with no change from a year ago.

The third area in progress is international standards related to how integrated a country is with the international community and the likelihood that they will conform to international standards in the 60th country.

It seems that the country appears weaker in the financial services that are related to the measures and depth of access that a country has to such services, while the institutional framework is also presented poorly with a ranking in the 80th place and that is related to the degree in which a country's institutions help or hinder business activity.

The index is compiled annually by the Milken Institute, an organization in the United States of America. The report considers the economic and financial factors affecting foreign investment, key business activities and the legal and regulatory policies used by governments to support and encourage investment.
