Fisnik Smajlaj and several other Albanians have been arrested in Italy, after an anti-drug operation by the local authorities.
The mega-operation was developed in cooperation between the Italian, German and Belgian authorities, hitting a criminal group involved in drug trafficking in Europe, as well as in their cooperation with the Calabrian mafia clans, "Ndrangheta".
Among the 25 arrest warrants issued by order of the Italian Prosecutor's Office, most of them are Albanians living in Belgium, among them Smajlaj, wanted since 2008.
The Italian media write that the latter's bar "Dino" in Frankfurt, Germany had turned into a base for the Calabrian mafia, "Ndrangheta" and their criminal activity.
In the bar owned by the Albanian, cocaine deals between traffickers took place. The German police intercepted a meeting aimed at the purchase of 50 kilograms of cocaine, which had arrived in Germany from South America and would finally be trafficked to Italy to be sold in doses.
